Our Mission

To improve St. Landry and Evangeline parishes by assessing the needs of the communities, mobilizing leaders and citizens through collaboration and volunteerism, and providing resource support to create lasting positive changes in lives, neighborhoods, and communities.

We envision the citizens of St. Landry and Evangeline parishes to be healthy, educated and self-sufficient.

The New Horizon Plan - A Roadmap to Success

In 2010-11, St. Landry-Evangeline United Way Board of Directors developed a strategic plan for the organization.  After almost a year of work, with the input of donors, volunteers, partner agencies, staff, and community leaders, a bold and comprehensive plan was established.  Goals were developed that will impact not only our community impact initiatives, but also our business model, our organizational and Board development, fund development, and communication.

Organizational and Board Development Goals

Motivate and educate Board of Directors through targeted programs and continuously providing current information so that strong, sound decisions can be made.  We will create a Board member mentoring program, establish a process for recruiting effective members.  We will ensure diversity is represented, and that all focus areas (Education, Health, Income) are represented.

Community Impact Goals

• Improve education, and cut the number of high school dropouts, through a renewed focus on early childhood literacy and collaborating with local school boards and others to ensure quality early education programs, so that our children will be ready to learn by kindergarten.
• Help people achieve financial stability by collaborating with Asset Building Coalition, VITA, and financial literacy programs to put the working poor on the road to economic independence.
• Promote healthy lives, and increase community awareness around the issues of obesity and diabetes, as we continue to foster and promote healthy living.

Our goals are ambitious, but with your help, and by utilizing our core strengths — a strong and passionate leadership, committed partners and public engagement capacity — we can achieve them.
