Non-Profits Invited To Apply for 2012 Funding

Opelousas, La; September 22, 2011:   The St. Landry-Evangeline United Way is inviting non-profits serving either of the two parishes to apply for funding if their programs are making a positive community impact in the areas of Education, Health or Financial Stability for low income.  Over twenty different agencies and programs are currently funded by United Way in the two-parish area.  Ginger LeCompte, Executive Director stated, “St.Landry-Evangeline United Way conducts an annual fundraising campaign to raise funds that will be invested in successful programs that provide critical services to our communities.”  Applying for United Way funding is a two-step process.  Applicants must first fill out and submit the application with the required documents, and then be interviewed by a committee that reviews each application. United Way president, Tim Marks stated, “The Community Investment Committee made up of volunteers and donors across the two parishes, reviews each application.  The financial state of the organization applying for funding, its business model, board activity, and mission are all examined so that the hundreds of donors who give to United Way are assured that their dollars are truly making a difference in people’s lives, and that funds raised are sent to programs that work and are run well.”

Only 501(c)3 charitable organizations may apply, and must meet the eligibility requirements for funding.  Applications can be picked up at the St. Landry-Evangeline United Way office at 311 W. Vine St. in Opelousas Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.   Deadline for submitting the application and all required attachments is Friday, October 14 at 4:00 p.m.  Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.  For more information, call 337-942-7815.
